In 2005 I was invited to exhibit at the inaugural Lianzhou Photo Festival in Guangdong Province, China. I fell in love with the aura of the place and offered the organisers to return the following year to photograph and create an installation in the old 'Candy Factory', a three story warehouse, sweltering during summer and freezing in winter, which would become my home for three months as I worked on my project. This particular day I was exploring a village nearby where the market was visiting and I came across this man, smoking a cigarette as a street dentist  poked around in his mouth.

Shouts from other vendors alerted him to my presence and he turned angrily and began to chase me up the street waving his pliers at me, much to the amusement of all the onlookers.

I'm happy to say that all ended well with laughter all around.

The sometimes unpredictable nature of street photography.
