ON THE EDGE OF REASON

If, like me, you marvel at the human spirit and the sublime in the natural world and love to feel inspired, then I have histories for you. In the most dire and dark of circumstance, an adversary in whom’s presence every other difficulty fades to insignificance, we find examples of inspirational resilience and compassion; acts of selflessness and generosity that border on the extreme. My life has been intertwined with conflicts and acts of God played out time and time again while the natural world struggled to keep up out of harm’s way; episodes which, in my precious naivety, I expected would one day come to an end, With age comes pragmatism but I still remember the names, the fear, the laughter and the embrace of those who welcomed me into their worlds like kin; lives lived in obscurity, fighting for futures they knew they may not live to see. Memory, its preservation, reconstitution and transferral is sacrosanct to my work in all of its forms. The fieldwork that I share here, both ongoing and vintage, is replete with transcendental moments from lives shared in the regions of Asia where I have spent the best part of my working life. Sharing the knowledge that I have accumulated is a passion of mine and for those of you on your own voyages into unknown worlds you will find a variety of collaborative opportunities, including bespoke field-trips where you have the unique possibility to work alongside me in the field in Asian regions. If there is anything you’d like to ask I will happily reply when time allows. And lastly, if you enjoy the work and would like to support its continuation, you may like to discover the various incarnations of my TwoSnakeStudio, from its beginnings in Bangkok's Chinatown, to Arles, France (Zomia) and its current metamorphosis under the Vercors Massif. Here you may view and acquire unique artworks in the form of hand-annotated images, handmade books, collections in the form of limited signed editions and talismanic pieces. I thank you for your visit; I’m constantly adding new elements so please come back soon. Safe travels for you all, Philip Blenkinsop

"THE SUREST WAY TO BUILD CONFIDENCE AND LEARN NEW

SKILLS IS TO WORK ALONGSIDE A SEASONED PRACTITIONER

DURING THE ACT OF CREATION”

Field-Trips Asia are bespoke for one or two participants and offer the unique and precious opportunity to spend several days shooting alongside me in a collegial, stimulating yet non-threatening environment where we can work in close proximity, the perfect scenario for the transferral of knowledge; and herein lies the beauty of, and the ideology behind these FIELD-TRIPS, that they allow you to put fresh lessons and experiences into practise in real time while I am there to offer advice and a gentle (or firm) push if needed. There is no better way to build confidence or develop new skills. Together we select dates and a destination which YOU feel would best suit your requirements. These field-trips are tailor made for YOU.

Fieldwork from the LOWER MEKONG RiVER BASiN Jan/Feb 2025

Early stages of editing recent work from the Lower Mekong River Basin, 2025

In January and February of 2025 I opened a new chapter of my fieldwork through the Lower Mekong River Basin in Mainland South East Asia. My goal is two-fold, the creation of a contemporary portrait of this region that I know intimately and secondly to recognise and interpret those portals to its volatile recent past when often as moments of deja vu they present themselves to me.
