Twenty eight years ago I stepped out of Don Muang Airport into Bangkok's dank, choking embrace for the first time;
lane after lane after choked lane of beaten up vehicles vying for the gaps on pre-elevated-tollway-Vibhavadi-Rangsit. Gaps that open and close in the baking sun like 'time-lapsed' boils, rupturing and coagulating at warp speed.
I sat there in the taxi taking it all in and trying not to breathe too deep; spellbound. Senses working overtime. Little did I know that this behemoth would be my home for the next 25 years. |
